Understanding Your Credit Report and Credit Score
One of the steps to home ownership for many people is applying for financing
for the purchase of your home. Your credit score will be a deciding factor
in not only whether or not you qualify for a mortgage, but in some cases, what
rate you are able to get on your mortgage loan.
There are a couple of websites in Canada that allow you to access a copy of
your own credit report. It's an excellent habit to cultivate to check your own
credit report on at least an annual basis to ensure there are no errors and to
guard against identity theft. You should confirm that your personal information
is current & accurate, that your financing information is correct and that you
have not been the victim of identity theft.
Since credit information can be kept by more than one credit-reporting
agency, and because these agencies don't necessarily share information, it's
important to check both credit reports carefully.
